Artist's Statement
Much of my work is very closely linked to the concept of island and its relationship to the periphery. The voyage, in all its stages: departure itinerary or arrival condenses a strong aspect of the immigrant experience. Dualities like loss and hunting, beginning and end, meeting and parting, are key points from which I construct stories.
I take on the issue of migration not only from the insular condition, but with a more universal approach and relate it to current issues such as communication and uprooting caused by the disappointments and loss of expectations in contemporary society.
I find myself more attached to the concept so I approach it through different media: painting, photography, video, installation and new media.
Awards2011: Artist in Residence, Museo Internazionale di Arte Contemporanea Dynamica, Macerata, Italy
2009: Artist in Residence, Vermont Studio Center, Vermont, USA
2008: Special Student Program of the Royal University College of Fine Arts, Stockholm, Sweden
2007: Scholarship from the Royal University College of Fine Arts, Stockholm, Sweden
